Uganda: Kizza Besigye rejects results of 'sham elections'

The main opposition candidate in Uganda’s presidential elections Kizza Besigye has rejected the results announced on Saturday describing it as ‘sham elections’.

“The results of the presidential election should be rejected,” Besigye said in a statement.

Kizza Besigye polled 35.37 % of the vote. Besigye who is under house arrest called on the international community and Ugandans to reject the results.

“I ask you, on behalf of the brave citizens of Uganda to reject the results of the sham elections,” he added.

The Ugandan Electoral Commission declared incumbent President Yoweri Museveni, winner of Thursday’s polls with 60.75 per cent.

President Museveni won another five year term to extend his 30-year- rule .
